WHO GETS TO SAY WHICH GRAPES ARE THE GOOD GRAPES? This is one of the most FASCINATING, dynamic and DRAMATIC topics in wine today and we can't WAIT to get into it. Did you know grapes are different species? All the world's most famous grapes are from one species, visit vinifera, that originate from Europe. The long standing belief was that these European grapes were the best (they're from Europe!!). Lately, folks are reconsidering this assumed better-than-all-else status and exploring North American grapes, along with old school plant crossings of European and North American grapes to make HYBRIDS. Hybrids are born to thrive in challenging weather that is now the norm (hello climate change!), but have been misunderstood by sommeliers and wine drinkers until very recently. In this session we’ll explore the history of these grapes, their environmental advantages, and discover just how dang tasty they can be. The future is here and it is delicious! One of our most GEEKY, but wildly interesting and boundary-pushing sessions.
This session will be led by GW co-founder and one of Toronto's most in demand sommeliers, Krysta Oben, and Waterworks GM Alexia David, who comes to us from some of Vancouver's very best restaurants including Michelin-star winning Burdock & Co.
All event tickets are non-refundable. Four free community tickets for BIPOC folks available for every Education Hour. This is at our Waterworks location.
