Muscat of Alexandria, Itata Valley, Chile | A rich orange-y oasis amidst a Chilean coastal dry-land! Winemakers Daniela & Pablo of Vinos Mingaco farm one hectare of moscatel de alejandria organically, practising regenerative agriculture on their home plot. The vines are over 30 years old and the fruit spends 12 days on skins extracting this chipper tannic structure. Aged outdoors (with open exposure to the air) for almost a year between oak barrels, old amphora and fibreglass, a thin layer of yeast known as “flor” developed on the surface, adding complex, oxidative notes. Medicinal herbs, grapefruit pith, green papaya, peppered salt, peach tea, gently nutty undertones with a lemon upswing & gravelly tannins. Try with Greek lamb dishes such as Kleftiko.
País, Cinsault, Aramón & San Francisco, Itata Valley, Chile | A gently murmuring light red blend begging for a chill and lulling us into a cool spring with its dulcet tones and hues. Winemakers Daniela & Pablo of Vinos Mingaco are huge proponents for minimal intervention winemaking, but with goals that span much farther than just their vineyards (can you say ACTIVE REFORESTATION!?). After transitioning their home site, this plot of over 100 year old, ungrafted vines is on its way to regenerative agriculture. An airy and dry coastal location that sees hot days, cool nights and sits on basaltic soils results in higher, balancing acidity levels. A tender and versatile blend of tart país (50%), floral cinsault (40%), herbaceous aramón (5%) & mysterious san francisco (5%). Purple flower, mouth of a cave, overripe strawberry, pennyroyal, Earth dust, dusk & a needle-point-fine structure. Pour alongside your favourite legume dish!
