Aligoté, Burgundy, France
A shimmering, mineral and tension filled aligoté ready today and for years to come. Château de Rougeon is a sixth-generation family estate located in the village of Bissey-Sous-Cruchaud, in the Côte Chalonnaise. Today, Isabelle and her children Joseph and Florence organically work the stunning, polyculture domaine. A healthy 25 hectares surrounded by pastures and forests, they grow grains, house bees, cows and sheep, plant cover crops between the rows and make their own compost. They are also a member of Les Aligoteurs, and Mi-Filles Mi-Raisins, collectives of women growers in Burgundy that also includes the LEGENDARY Tomoko Kuriyama of Domaine Chanterêves. FUN HISTORY FACT! Charles Ozanon, the son of the domaine’s founder, was a renowned botanist, and when phylloxera hit he was one of the botanists to study and promote grafting onto American rootstock! The aligoté grows at a high altitude of 400 m on soils of limestone and granite – a rarity in Burgundy! Lemon concentrate, white flower garland, the finest banana cream pie, white pear, chips and chunks of minerality & Hawaiian spring honey. Enjoy alongside a Rhode Island clam chowder.
