A botanical, aromatic and mischevious Chilean piquette. Brand new-to-Ontario producer from Grape Witch Imports, welcome La Basilona! Beginning in 2021, Alsace-born Basile l’Archimandrite’s delectable Itata Valley project is all about creating delicious and terroir-driven wines from the fruit of only the happiest n’ healthiest vines he can grow or buy. A blend of berried país, floral moscatel, citric torontel, & spiced, n’ smoky cinsault aged between 90 and 200 years! To create this whimsical piquette, two tonnes of un-pressed, macerated grape skins are added to 900 litres of spring water and left for seven days of maceration with spearmint-like pennyroyal and strawberry-esque mutilla (a regional Chilean berry that looks like a blueberry!). Tiger balm offers a lifted, healing menthol aroma, red cherry, lemon verbena heavy vermouth and tonic, Christmas spices with dried orange peel, thyme & a little taut, with soft fuzzy bubbles. A perfect accompaniment with an assortment of olives, Pan Amasado or beef empanadas.
