This particular parcel of Pinot Grigio has grown in Terre di Chieti in the foothills of Abruzzo. There, grapes were soft crushed before fermenting on their skins with indigenous yeasts. We so often have Pinot Grigio as a rather, uh, boring white wine, but the grapes are actually this stunning copper colour and have a surprising amount of satisfying tannin and structure. Expect baked peach and stewed apple with thirst-quenching iced-tea tannins and a jolt of electric acid that refreshes. Pack a cold bottle of Patch, all the little snacks and a book for a literally perfect afternoon.
