Hárslevelü & Juhfark, Somló, Hungary

This neon yellow pet-nat is new to the Meinklang family; though the bulk of Meinklang’s wines are grown & made in their homeland of Austria, Foam Vulkán is from their vineyard in Somló, Hungary. Somló is an extinct volcano crowned by thousand year old castle ruins (hot); black basalt bedrock soils give wines a fiery, smokey minerality— because they are literally remnants of ancient lava flows. How powerful! This is a wildflower summer elixir (summer is a state of mind) with notes of pear drop, lemon curd, kiwi, and a yeasty, sour beer vibe. Drink on a baseball diamond late at night, pair with a mixed bag of gummi candy from the corner store & hey why not toss the ball around & see if you still got it?
