A mineral, textural and magnificent Czech pinot gris that commands attention. Back in Ontario for ONLY the second time, the charmingly untameable and artistic wines of Mirka Nestarec! Mira is the answer to Mirka’s longing for the wines of the past from her partner, famed winemaker Milan Nestarec. Just about as minimal intervention as it gets, their vine shoots grow as close to the sun as they dare, with no trimming or cutting…in fact, rarely a human hand touches the vines in order to allow for the most honest, pure and sometimes wild expressions possible. FUN FACT! Her labels are adorned by pivotal figures from her time as a dancer, with this one featuring José Limón (1908 - 1972), a Mexican-American dancer and choreographer, celebrated for his deeply human, lyrical movement and powerful stage presence! The pinot gris was gently direct pressed and aged between concrete and oak barrels for 11 months to soften and develop. Crushed rocks, the smell of baking vanilla cheesecake, a prickly fibrous texture like a woven basket, lemon and lime ZIP, so mineral, greenness is soft and gentle, leesy like yellow cake batter, white lilac and chamomile flowers, chalk & cherubs. Pour alongside whole trout, while contemplating this quote Mirka shared, “IMPRESS WITHOUT FORCE, BUT WITH PRECISION AND INNER MOVEMENT”.
