Pineau d’Aunis, Loire Valley, France

Winemaker Ariane Lesné probably feels the same way – it was Montrieux’s Pineau d’Aunis that made her insatiable for Loire wines in the first place. When she heard that the historic estate was up for sale, she purchased it and the rest is history! Call it fate with a dash of good fortune. This is Pineau d’Aunis at its most evolved – self-assured, sophisticated & more than a touch wild – made from young estate vines and fermented for two months in stainless steel. The Susanne Bartsch of wines – Szechuan white pepper, pomegranate molasses, hibiscus punch, cranberry cocktail & rhubarb shrub with a devilish disco funk & winky-eye tannins. Pair with one-percenter truffle chips & melon and prosciutto on a salt and pepper Triscuit.
