The impossible-to-read yellow-on-white is totally intentional & is actually a clever way of getting the real feel of this sun-drenched red & white blend from Ochota Barrels, one of the most beloved natural wineries in Southern Australia. Taras Ochota liked to describe his wines as “all elbows and knees sticking out” which perfectly describes this clown car stuffed with a whopping six different grapes – Grenache, Gewürzt, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Syrah. The grapes were destemmed, cold-soaked and partially co-fermented, followed by a few months in tank before blending and bottling without fining or filtration. Like a rave in the woods, every grape brings something different to the party – dirty wildberry fruit, blackcurrant gummy, damson plum, red liquorice, book-pressed rose, white pepper, cigar box & a whiff of peat with long, supple tannins and a meaty underbelly. And like any good partygoer, chill, don’t ask questions and just drink the moment in, it’ll last longer.
