May we introduce our newest collaboration with one of our favourite Austrian winemakers, everyone meet the wistful and wonderful PETALOOOO! Run by the energetic and dedicated winemaker Andreas Ziniel, Weingut Ziniel produces outstanding examples of low intervention Austrian wines. Their 16 hectares of organically kept land sits at the lowest point in Austria where they are, “completely at peace in the centre of the universe”. Sounds like bumper sticker material to us! We dreamed of a joyful light red for spring, and went back and forth with Andreas sending us samples and blending them every which way til our heart fluttered with every sip. Our darling ‘Petaloo’ is a blend of herbal, fruity st. laurent and aromatic, plush muscat (around 5-10%) grown on sandy-loamy soils. The st. laurent was macerated on skins for one week to lock in colour and texture, while the muscat was carbonically macerated to encourage aromatics EVEN FURTHER, then rested in barrels for 1.5 years, with a following six months in bottle to make sure Petaloo was ready for their debut. Wine gums meets Scooby doo snack gummies, fresh ataulfo mango and aromatic pineapple, cool minerality, a plush n’ juicy texture, with a shrubby greenness & salmonberry bite. Enjoy while watching Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away and contemplating if you have what it takes to run away to the circus OR on either of the GW patios with a slew of seasonal SNACKS at the ready (the patios are our beautiful circus!).
