Adernats Cava

Adernats Cava
Adernats is a historic Cava house founded as a co-op in 1917, with local growers banding together after the vine louse phylloxera devastated the region’s vineyards. Their production is almost exclusively traditional method sparkling, with low dosage and luxurious, extended lees aging. The clay and calcareous soils are ideally suited to the production of the classic cava grapes xarel-lo, macabeu & parellada – their specialty! Managing 400 hectares with more than one hundred farmers in the co-operative, they also producing olive oil, honey, fruit jams & hazelnuts! Heavily mediterranean influenced, the region is generally warm and dry, the sunny Nulles’ terroir elevating the fleshy ripeness to balance the grapes’ natural acidity, with a cooling sway from the salty sea winds. Great co-operatives are such a treat to work with. They represent sustained local agriculture, and small growers working together to produce something great. When done right, they’re also some of the best value wines we know.
