We are filled with glee to present the nomadic, low-intervention and exceedingly inviting wines of L’Étrangère. Extremely well travelled, brilliant sommelier-turned-winemaker, Lainie Taillefer was born in the scenic Abitibi region of northern Quebec before hearing the call of the wide, wild world. Having her curiosity ignited by time spent at Montreal's pioneering, natural wine focused restaurant, Les Trois Petit Bouchons, in 2010 Lainie plunged herself into a harvest with the incomparable Christian Binner in Alsace. This rough and honest formative experience was followed by 10 years and many trips between Europe and Montreal where Lainie tread so many prolific vineyards, worked in and orchestrated the wine lists of so many famed restaurants (try Seven Swans in Frankfurt, Germany, London's Antidote Wine Bar, as well as Majestique and Lawrence in Montreal), her experience, wine-mind and taste buds are some of the most accomplished we’ve ever heard of! Shaped by her entire scope of experiences, in 2020 L’Étrangère’s first cuvée came about as a gracefully morphing and low-intervention exploration of place. Thus far, her roving offerings have come from places where she has lived and worked with makers and growers that have inspired her, all encapsulated into one cuvée per place, per year – including the Mosel Valley, Germany (2023 – to be released soon!), Weinviertel, Austria (2022 – our first available wine from her!), Vipava Valley, Slovenia (2021) & Segovia, Spain (2020)!
