Les Frères Soulier
Langudoc-Rousillon, France
Brothers Charles and Guillaume took over their father’s Gard domain in 2014, and put out their first wines the next year under the now highly sought-after name, Les Frères Soulier. With backgrounds in landscaping and the study of Viticulture and Enology at the agronomic school of Montpellier, respectively, Guillaume tends to the vineyards and Charles has his finger on the pulse of their cellar. Their ten hectares in this area of the Langudoc-Rousillon traverse sand, red clay and limestone soils, and are planted mainly to regional red staples like grenache and syrah, but also include replantings of their favourite forgotten local varieties like picardan, terret noir and counoise. Charles was heavily influenced by the Japanese farmer and philosopher, Masanobu Fukuoka, whose books introduced him to permaculture and changed how he wanted to engage in farming. Their vineyard philosophy is gentle stewardship, and includes a very old wooden basket press, horse ploughing, as well as goats and sheep that help control the weed population by snacking on them! In the cellar they work in a zero-zero fashion at every opportunity and experiment with not topping up their barrels for intentional encouragement of pre-developed flor. These scrumptiously southern wines are concentrated, alive & worth every ounce of your attention. We are so pleased to welcome these brothers to the GW family!
