One of GW Import’s newest Italian arrivals, let us all say CIAO to Marco Ferrari! Founded in 2019, Marco’s is a newer estate in buzzy, alpine Valtellina, with a foot in tradition and another digging-in for dear life to the region’s beloved slopes. From high up in the mountains, Valtellina is known for its remarkably steep, time-worn stone-terraced vineyards. With stints at wineries working the sharp inclines that emerge in the northern Rhône exclusively by hand, Marco has trained for wrangling these landscapes into the bottle for much of his career! His love of old vines and regional grapes seen through minimal intervention is really the star of these classically powerful and lithe cuvées. In the cellar, his movements are precisely guided by the lunar phases, sulphur usage is kept minimal, and the wines are always left unfined and unfiltered for only the purest regional expressions. We were blown away by our visit during harvest, snacking on fire roasted chestnuts and sipping these cliff-climbing gems & can’t wait to share them with you. VROOM VROOM Mr. Ferrari!
