Timothée Stroebel
GWI’s SECOND Champagne producer is HERE!! We are cartwheeling, summersaulting and jumping up and down with joy and can’t wait for you to taste what all the BUBBLING FUSS is about! Timothée Stroebel is a main character in the Grower Champagne movement, farming organically with immense dedication to low-intervention winemaking to produce some of the most singular and moving Champagnes and Coteaux Champenois we have ever tried. He works with vines planted by his grandfather in the 1960s in Villers Allerand, a premier cru village in the sub-region of Montagne de Reims. FUN FACT! This is the most northernly part of Champagne and the tension that cool climate brings is pulsing from these bottles. Caring for these over 700 year-old chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier plots is top priority, and the land breathes and shuffles onwards in its natural rhythms alongside Timothée’s tender processes. Working his soils with the horses Bijou and Quina and a trusty plough, Timothée also employs natural mildew preventatives, such as microbe-enriched water, orange oil and compost teas to protect the precious vines without introducing damaging or destabilizing chemicals. Picking the fruit later than is common for this region for fuller phenolic ripeness, implementing long lees aging and keeping his interference to the absolute minimum. His lineup offers honest accounts of the year, land and grapes with incomparable depth, drinkability & diversity. Welcome to the GW family Stroebel, we never dreamed we’d get this lucky!
